Buggy Bacon

Pretzels. Bacon. Brown Sugar. Nuff said.


This was the dish I made up to take to Halloween parties this year. If you like bacon, you’ll like this. And it’s sooo simple! Don’t mind the roaches. You can skip that part.


As with pretty much everything I make, there’s no exact measurements. Here’s what I did.


  • Pretzel sticks (salted). The thicker, the better. If you can’t find short ones, just break the large ones in half.
  • 1 lb thin sliced bacon
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 1/4 tsp cumin
  • 1/2+ tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder (optional)
  • Honey (optional)

Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl.


Line a cookie sheet with foil. Place a wire cooling rack on the foil. This will let the bacon grease drip down. Cut the bacon in half. One piece at a time, dredge the bacon in the brown sugar mixture. Make sure to cover the entire piece. Starting at one end of the pretzel, wrap a piece of bacon around it. Stop about 1/2 inch from the bottom, leaving a place for people to pick it up. Place them close together, without touching. If you want, you can drizzle some honey on them. But do it sparingly, or they will get soggy. Place in the oven, around 400F, check after 20 minutes. Cooking time will vary. You want them to be a dark brown, without burning.


Clean up is pretty easy too. Wait until the grease is cool. The grease will bond to the brown sugar, and the brown sugar will harden. Simply pick up the foil and throw away.

These look GREAT and so easy! I love the creepy little roaches you added- they definitely add an ick factor for Halloween.
