From The Window…To The Wall

Till the grass gets big and tall.

Yes, we have beautiful mountains. But they’re just not something I enjoy photographing. At least, not that often. So, what do you take pictures of, in the desert, in the middle of winter? Grass! Oh…and my favorite, weeds.

Actually, spring is just around the corner, and things are starting to bloom. But, I’m really having to work to find them. Many of these are macro shots. In most cases, I don’t even see the shot until I get down on the ground, with the camera. These aren’t special flowers or grass. It’s the stuff you step on every day.

All horizontal shots. Maybe I’ll follow up tomorrow with a set of vertical images. I said maybe.

Picture heavy, I know. But I work hard to find and capture these, and I felt like sharing. Deal with it.

Sooo…are you as ready for spring, as I am? Cause I’m cussing excited!

Spin The Cup

Tea Cup. errr uhh…Tilt-A-Whirl.

We ran out for about an hour to a local carnival. Gaaaaawd. I hate calling it a carnival. It’s just some raggedy rides, set up in a local parking lot, for 2 days. But it wasn’t about that. It was about getting out, together, as a family. I’ll happily dish out 20 bucks to see my family smile. Because that, is what makes me smile.

And yes, this was WAY harder than it looks! This was the best shot of about 15. But hey, I’ll take it.

Anyone else ever stop a little, scary looking, roadside carnival? Only to find out that it was a ton of fun? Or, do you have a horror story?

VD for Kids

Yes. It’s supposed to sound that way. Now laugh.

The Valentines gifts for Davins classmates was a group effort in our home, this year. We all pitched in. We wanted to keep it simple and affordable. But still make them personal.

So, some candy, clear gift bags, some paper mustaches for lollipops, and heart gift tags, and we were set. The mustaches and hearts were courtesy of the Silhouette Cameo. What a great tool!

We spent a few bucks on his teacher, but she’s worth every penny! He told us she drinks tea. So, a mug it was. Not all that original, I know. But I did put her initial on it. Yeah, I’m cool like that. Oh yeah, the initial is vinyl cut by the Cameo. And we filled it with a nice selection of Sharpie markers, which she uses every day.

On a side note, Davin and I made Sicily a simple little card. A picture card. The inspiration came from Pinterest. Now, if for whatever reason, you’re still not using Pinterest…why? Why? If you’re on the list, and just need an instant invite, let me know. All I need is your email. As long as you sign up, you will not be tar and feathered.

Did you get anything wonderful?

Love Box

Valentines Day cards need love too.

So, we had to make a box for the valentine card exchange. I’m sure most of them will have some type of slot in the top, but we went a different route.

We left the lid in tact. There were already perfect little slots on the inside of the box. So we just put a popsicle stick into each one. It props the lid open just enough to let the kids slip them in, and keep them from getting jammed up. And of course, I forgot the picture to show it. Use your imagination.

Okay, so my spacing was off on the letters. The kids are 6. Pretty sure they’ll overlook it.

We just cut up craft paper into random squares and rectangles. Then used a glue stick to adhere them. No rhyme or reason. We just put them wherever, overlapping them.

Used spray adhesive for the candy hearts. Double sided tape for the kisses. The bottom of the kisses were rounded, so the glue wouldn’t hold them. The letters for his name were done on the Silhouette Cameo. Then, we just taped them to Blow Pops, and pushed the handles into holes in the box. Finished.

It’s not perfect. Not even close. But I think it’s perfectly cute for a group of 1st graders.

We Have A Winner!

A loser, if you’re the tooth.

So, it’s official. Davin lost his first tooth. Finally! No blood. No tears. The new one is on its way in. Hopefully, as straight as all the existing guys. Yes, he’s very proud!

Do you remember losing your 1st tooth? I do.

Winter Findings

Winter in the desert is - blah.

See…there’s no color. There’s no life. But there is lots of dead grass. Oh, and dirt. Don’t forget dirt. Of course there’s just as much dirt in the summer, but there’s more color to help hide it.

So, finding beauty in our harsh desert just takes a little more work. But it’s out there. You just have to look a little harder.

No snow for us. Not even in the nearby mountains. How many of you are sick and tired of the snow?
